Service Pack 2 Windows Vista: time to update?

in Windows | | 3 Comments » | Last modified:

after nearly 5 age, la gloriosa installazione di Windows XP, passed by 3 service packs, 3 cpu Amd ed 1 Intel, It showed signs of almost irreversible collapse…

Speed always slower than the upload, programs that close unexpectedly or which do not behave as they should, Search texts, for some reason, a few months ago it has become Case-sensitive (ie you have to pay attention to the Upper and Lower Case), They look quite nice to think adun formattone.

Just in the few days, I learn that the Service Pack is released 2 Windows Vista, or rather it is the RTM version, namely the one that will be sent to producers, and that is already downloadable from those who have a subscription to the MS Developer Program. Let us also that, after many years, I was curious to try a version of Windows 64bit, I thought it might be a good time to try.

These links (trust, I checked the md5 hashes and matches the official version of Microsoft update, OFFICIAL LINKS):

64 bit:

Windows Vista SP2 x64 – Windows Server 2008 SP2 x64

32 bit:

Windows Vista SP2 x86 – Windows Server 2008 SP2 x86

I remember that one must already have the service pack 1 and all directed, via Win Update updates in order to install this service pack.

Both versions contain 36 major languages, including Italian.

In this very moment I am finishing the update via WinUpdate before you can launch the setup of the service pack 2.

If, during installation, the system say that you can not install it because they lack some system components (Missing Components, says my version in English), most likely you have installed a copy of modified Vista with vLite.

The solution is simple, simply enter regedit and delete the key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\vLite

And revive the Service Pack setup.

Edit part 20 May: attention! If you have installed a version of Vista SP1 treated with vlite WILL’ IMPOSSIBLE to install Service Pack 2, as found by me and confirmed on many forums, because at the end of the installation will appear an error of FILE_NOT_FOUND type with a corresponding error code, and there will be NO SOLUTION. A nothing will follow the advice they are on the Internet, how to delete the folder with the Windows Update or use the MS LOG Readiness Tool, only lose time.

SP2 will this last before the release of Win 7 able to compete with the next version of Windows, or will not help to reduce the midst of Vista flop?
