The easiest and fastest way to make a backup
Make regular backups of their data is an important operation.
I dare not imagine how many tears verserei (like all!) if I lost all my data, papers, photo, and everything else I've accumulated over many years.
However, on both Windows and Mac OSX, I ran into some trouble finding software that * REALLY * did what it was meant to do: back up, without creating further problems.
Backuppo my disk storage (ie the disk on which you are all my personal files) Network, on a USB disk connected to the Apple Airport Extreme, Router Cupertino.
Because I realized that within a very few months exchange files, maybe a hundred, I saw that the incremental and differential backup methods are overkill, because they tend to occupy (and then fill the entire) all the space on the backup disk.
IF WINDOWS
In the case of Windows 7, for example, until a few days ago I used Acronis True Image Home to perform differential backups, But because of the Full Backup dating a few months ago, each differential backup occupied more than 30GB even though I had changed a few files from the last differential backup.
This is because, according to the logic of differential backups, every time you make a backup are copied All files that have changed since the last full backup (Full). It goes without saying that, more months pass, more each differential backup will become larger and take longer.
Also, This causes the backup disk become full, After some time.
I thought to install Karen’s PT Replicator (as I have even recommended on the forum Acronis, which apparently is overkill for my needs. Among other things, the day when I downloaded PT Replicator I thought to ask something to the author, and I found that that day is dead… 🙂 ), which is very useful for backup synchronizing folders of source and destination, then going to copy only the files that are actually changed since the last backup.
The problem is that, After the first full backup, FILE FILE goes to check for if there have been changes, and there being several tens of thousands of files, the backup takes many, many many hours.
An update of the backup, in my case, put us over 5 hours!
I understand that the problem is that PT Replicator controls FILE AT A TIME (In fact, the use of the disk is very low, and that the network does not reach even to 1Mbps).
E'allora I was recommended a great software, called Vice versa.
The software allows different backup strategies and, in my case, I wanted ONE COPY files, and I wanted that is being updated ONLY the files I had actually changed or added, was useful.
The function backup (MIRROR SOURCE TO TARGET) makes sure that the backup disk becomes an exact replica of the source disk.
These are my settings, that can be used by anyone who has the same need. Council not to touch the other settings, unless you know what you are doing 🙂
in my case, since the backup disk was connected to the grid, I had to click NETWORK, and enter your username and password.
At this point, once saved your settings, you can return to the main program screen and click COMPARE.
The software will start to check if the disk backup contains a copy of the exact disk source, or if some files have changed.
I assure you that, although the disc at 5400rpm, File comparison occurs within a few minutes.
At this point you will see a screen, where you will see all the files to be updated (in green and red), files to be deleted, and files already updated (in black).
All that remains is click EXECUTE, and the software will update your backup disk in a few minutes… And here!
This way you can update (at your discretion) backup, without this being in a strange format (.tib come per Acronis Image), or that is slow, or that it fills the disk in a short time with copies incremental / differential.
CASO MAC OSX
Time Machine, software from Apple that should allow you to have a (and more) backup versions of our work do not like.
I do not like because it creates a lot of incremental copies of which many complain, and that make the backup disk (1000gb or more that are) be filled soon.
I do not like because, unless they do not have the structures of the home Norad, a consumer home does not need a backup solution active 24 ore su 24, and creates numerous copies of the same file.
Just like ViceVersa for Windows, Mac OSX comes to help Chronosync.
You can set up the source disc in LEFT TARGET, the destination disk in RIGHT TARGET, and set the type of backup LEFT-TO-RIGHT, to ensure that the backup disk contains an identical replica of the source disk.
You can also back up scadenzare, so that it starts automatically every day and, just like ViceVersa, is extremely fast in updating the backup.
