Visiting Frankfurt in a few hours
If you arrived on this page, Probably, you're probably wondering what I was wondering also I: “I have half a day (the poco meno) of direct flights to Frankfurt, What could I visit in a few hours, and how can I get into town?”
Many know Frankfurt because ECB premises, come financial center Germany and the Euro, and why seat, con London Heathrow e Paris CDG, of largest airport in Europe.
Well, fra un skyscraper of a bank and… to another bank, hide the true gems, come Romerberg, shown in the photo just above, beautiful parks to relax in the summer, an impeccable urban, and a public transport system… German (which is synonymous with “excellent”).
Da bravi italiani, accustomed to airports completely disconnected from the national rail network, the first question that we will be: how to get from the airport to the city center? I have to take a taxi?
Do not worry, the S-Bahn station (ferrovía suburban) is just below the Terminal 1 where it lands and Lufthansa, taking frequent S8 o S9 for Frankfurt Hbf. (Hanau), in 15 minutes to arrive at the Central Station Frankfurt.
On the site of the VGF (institution of public transport) you can see, in lingua italiana, the times di S8 ed S9, and maybe download a PDF map of transport su ferro.
The airport station, waiting for the train, I recommend you use an automated machine DB, and purchase a daily subscription, that allows you to use all means to the city and to the airport, called Tagenkarte including. Airport, cost (in 2013) di 8,30eur. If you come from a non-EU country and are devoid of Euro, you can also pay by credit card.
At that point, thanks to’itinerary suggeritomi from a friend who lives in Frankfurt, I developed, and then experienced, a combined route piedi U S Bahn Bahn, which allows visit the main points of interest in 3-4 hours (depending on the pitch and time you want to spend in each place).
The route begins and ends at Central Station, then you can come back at the airport (preferably with at least 90 minutes early) by the same means by which you arrived at Central Station.
