The number one rule of tourists in America: respect the customs of the place
One of my favorite things when I travel, is to take advantage of the opportunity to "mingle" with the residents, do what they do, and maybe take my curiosity to participate in cultural events and activities, at first sight, would escape to a tourist.
but, worship as a tourist, I hate to be the "classic tourist", if you know what I mean. Every time I visit somewhere unknown, I try to make up its mind on the habits of the residents, and try to adapt to these as possible. Not respecting the habits of the place that you host, can make your partner feel offended or, in some cases, even insulted, can create for ourselves embarrassment, or even worse.
